Kate heartbreak: ‘Brutal’ reason preventing Duchess’ introduction to niece Lilibet Diana.KATE, the Duchess of Cambridge’s first virtual meeting with her new niece could be delayed due to a “brutal” factor even amid the “rocky” relationship with her in-laws.
he Duchess of Cambridge may have “added fuel” to suggestions that her and William’s relationship with the Sussexes is “still rocky”, royal commentators have claimed. Kate was asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new baby, Lilibet Diana, during a press conference at the G7 and admitted that they had met her virtually yet at the time. Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discussed the “brutal” reason why this might be.
Ms Fiorito told listeners: “Just because they haven’t FaceTimed doesn’t mean they haven’t chatted over the phone.
“It’s wild when a new baby arrives and I feel like there’s a lot of chaos.
“They do have the added dynamic of their relationship and figuring out whatever nuances there are.
“Timing-wise, the baby’s asleep, the baby’s awake, who knows?”
She continued: “I’m giving Kate the benefit of the doubt that it’s very much an intention of theirs to catch up soon.
“But it did add a little bit of fuel to headlines that things are potentially still rocky.”
Ms Bowie agreed: “In those first few days you’re probably not wanting to FaceTime anybody.
“You’re in a little cocoon with your baby, trying to have those moments that you savour.”
She added: “So it’s not weird at all to have not FaceTime and she did not say they haven’t talked yet.”
Ms Fiorito also said: “If you think about the time difference too, that’s pretty brutal from the UK to the West Coast.
“I always forget what a big gap that is.”
The Duchess of Cambridge also wished her new niece “all the best”.
